The highway network surrounding the University Site and Hospital Campus has been assessed to identify the most efficient access strategy from the 6th and 7th Ring Roads, as well as Road 602. Future traffic growth applied to existing traffic observations has identified that parts of the existing highway infrastructure will have to be improved to enable both the predicted traffic growth as well as the University complex. The effects of traffic in terms of the University would be minimized, where efforts were made to change the current trend of car orientated travel towards other more sustainable modes of transport. |

The
internal access strategy has confirmed the need for a ring road that
surrounds both the proposed University and Medical campus. The so named
“University Ring Road” (URR) allows the considerable volumes of site
traffic to distribute around the facilities in a way that minimizes the
amount of conflicting traffic movements on the most trafficked section,
which is to the south of the women’s campus. The proposed network is
designed to divert or segregate students and staff away from the use of
surrounding residential roads, and in turn is not designed to encourage
its use by through traffic. |
